With storytelling at the heart of her work, Firdose is particularly interested in the intersection of sport and society and the personalities behind the profession.

Her signature pieces are in-depth, issues-based investigations of the legacy of empire in sport, inclusion and how sport interacts with contemporary culture, as well as profile pieces.

  • Firdose has two decades of experience as a sports writer, working primarily as Southern African and women’s correspondent for Cricinfo.
  • She also writes extensively about women’s football and is a regular contributor to The Guardian’s Moving the Goalposts newsletter.
  • Firdose has covered 10 World Cups across sports, genders and formats including the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, the 2010 Football World Cup and the 2023 Netball World Cup. Her long-form pieces have been shortlisted for the AIPS Sports Award for several years and in 2024, her piece on social media bullying in sport placed second in Africa.
